MEDIA CENTER POLICY 

    Access to Media Center, Behavior:
  1. The Center is open to all students, staff and community members.
  2. Every student entering the Center must have an individual hall pass signed by a teacher and a specific task.
  3. Have your pass signed before returning to class. Students will leave the Center only to return to class.
  4. Students come to the Center to work, study or read. We must maintain an atmosphere where study is possible.
  5. No food or drink, gum or candy is allowed in the Media Center. Students who do not comply will be asked to leave.
  6. Students are encouraged to ask for help in finding materials or to discuss progress in research projects!
  7. When you have finished using an item in the Center, return it to its proper place. Push chairs under tables; throw away trash.
    Borrowing Materials:
  1. Books circulate for 2 weeks
  2. You can have a maximum of 3 books at one time
  3. Videos circulate for 3 days (student use requires teacher‘s request)
  4. Reference books circulate overnight and are due back by 8:00 the following day.
  5. Overdue fines are 10 cents a day; overdue notices are distributed Monday morning.
  6. Renewals are possible- just stop by desk (no need to have item)
  7. You must return items and pay fines before receiving your report card.
    Resources:
  1. The Fiction section has been placed at the front of our media center so that our literary collection is easy to find, easy to use. Authors and themes are highlighted with displays on the low fiction book shelves.
  2. The Reference collection is on the tall shelves facing patrons as they enter the front of the media center. Materials are chosen to support the curriculum of the school.
  3. Non-fiction stacks dominate the north wall and the tall shelves at the back of the Center. Books are classified using Dewey Decimal System ( http://www.tnrdlib.bc.ca/dewey.html )
  4. Oversized books are located at the end of the 900’s.
  5. Periodicals (magazines, newspapers) are located on the first unit of tall shelves as you enter the Center. Please return items to the proper locations.
    COPIES
  1. Copies cost 25 cents each. Ask for assistance in making double-sided copies.
  2. Printer copies cost 20 cents each. To save time and money, highlight the portion of the researched material that is needed and choose selection in the print mode.
