The Mission Statement below explains the goals of the St. Joseph Catholic High School Spanish Club
"The St. Joseph Catholic High School Spanish Club aims to expose its members to the culturally diverse and ever-growing Spanish-speaking world. Through field trips and activities that are both informative and fun, members will learn to look beyond their own school and community to appreciate the language and customs of various Spanish-speaking regions. A variety of Spanish Club experiences will help club members compete in our increasingly bilingual nation and global community."
Spanish Club Constitution
The purpose of Spanish Club is to provide educational opportunities outside of the classroom for those interested in the Spanish language and culture. The club also provides the opportunity to meet with other St. Joseph students and faculty interested in speaking Spanish as well as international students.
The club will meet formally at least once a month. Guest speakers will be invited, videos in Spanish may be shown to increase cultural knowledge, and club members will be encouraged to participate in authentic cultural celebrations. Meetings will be conducted according to parliamentary procedure.
QUALIFICATIONS OF MEMBERS
The only qualifications for membership are to be a student in a St. Joseph Catholic School Spanish Language Class learning and a desire to understand of Spanish cultures and the Spanish language.
OFFICERS AND THEIR ELECTIONS
Presidents: The presidents’ duty will consist of calling meetings and presiding over them, delegating duties to the other officers, and revising the constitution.
Secretary: The secretary will keep track of the minutes of each meeting and email them to the other officers, keep track of when events are scheduled and ensure that planning is on track, and organize a binder of the events planned during that year and the steps taken to do so.
Treasurer: The treasurer will keep track of the Spanish Club account and allocated funds, making sure all policies of St. Joseph Catholic Schools are followed concerning a club’s monies.
Public relations: The duty of the public relations officer will be to publicize events to the St. Joseph Catholic Schools’ community as well as to send emails to club members.
Event organizer: The event organizer will organize Spanish Club events by contacting the venue, ordering food, and performing any other duties related to organizing an event.
Officers shall volunteer for their positions. Candidates should be active members of the club. If a position has more than one volunteer, officers shall be elected by majority vote of the total membership of the club. The voters should have had an interest in and been active members of the club. Replacement of these officers shall be determined by the club members. Impeachment of any officer needs a majority vote, with replacement elections following. The term of these officers shall be one academic school year.
Field trips, speakers, parties, conversation, Dia de los Muertos and Cinco de Mayo celebrations will be included as activities for Spanish Club.
AMMENDING THE CONSTITUTION
This constitution can be amended by a majority vote of the membership.
The Spanish Club admits students without regard to their race, religion, color, sex, age, sexual orientation or national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and other activities, generally accorded or made available to members of the organization.
The Spanish Club considers hazing to be a degrading and destructive activity which is inconsistent with the standards of this student organization. The Spanish Club recognizes the dignity of every person and opposes all forms of hazing.
